Golconda Fort History:

Golconda Fort is located in the western part of Hyderabad city and about 9 km from Hussain Sagar Lake. The outer fort occupies an area of three square km or 4.8 km in length.

It was originally known as Mankal and was built on top of a hill in 1143.

It was originally a mud fort during the reign of Rajah of Warangal. It was then fortified between the 14th and 17th centuries by the Bahmani sultans and later by the ruling Qutub Shahi dynasty. Golconda was the main capital of the Qutub Shahi kings.

The inner fort contains palace ruins, mosques, and a hilltop pavilion, which rises to around 130 meters high and offers panoramic views of other buildings.
